Apart from cricket, there has been no sport in which India can boast of having produced the best players in the history. A very common misconception indeed and one that is slowly becoming acceptable to the 21st century Indians. That is why it is important to recognize Indian sporting legends from the pre-Independence era as well.
The person in whose honour National Sports Day is celebrated on 29th August every year, Major Dhyan Chand is the man who floored the Germans with his dazzling hockey skills at the Berlin Olympics over 80 years ago. Popularly known as "The Wizard", Dhyan Chand was arguably the greatest player the sport of field hockey has ever seen. He is best remembered for leading the Golden age of Indian Hockey and for his three-peat of gold medals at the Olympics in 1928, 1932 and 1936. His unparalleled level of dedication, loyalty and hardwork is what IIT Delhi strives to see in its upcoming players. With the IITD hockey team winning gold medals in recent inter-IITs, we hope that the Golden Age of IITD Hockey will not only be maintained, but further enhanced by a talented pool of promising players consisting of Shuvang, Dharamraj, Danish and Jeetu.
Here's, BSA presenting to you the next Indian legend of the 'KnowYourStar' series. Cheers!
